That’s Us:
Hey there! I am Johanna. I am vegan since 2 years and live happy and healthy ever after. My fridge is filled with non-animal products. Discussing with others about my plant based diet . My reasons for being vegan are mainly environmental, by own health and ethical reasons however also influenced my decision.
This blog should give everyone who is interested in veganism but maybe doesn’t know where and how to start – Why don’t try one of our easy recipes?
Hello foodies, my name is Katharina! I am not a vegan myself but i am really open minded about this topic and I always like to get to know knew recipes and eating habits. I have many vegan friends and have tried a lot of vegan recipes which taste as good as recipes including ingredients originating from animals. Also my mom uses a lot of vegan recipes at home such a vegan bolognese which I like way more than the normal one. Therefore, I am really excited about this blog and look forward to more recipes to try.
Hiii, I’m Chris! There’s one really important thing that you need to know about me: I just love food. Cooking and baking are my biggest hobbies. I often cook for my family and friends. My boyfriend always compliments me for the deserts that I make. My favorite dish is just every pasta dish. Meat, fish or vegetarian pasta dishes, I like it all! I always cook with , I never cook vegan food. However, I’m very motivated to learn more about it
Hey readers! My name is Ruben, 24 years old and huge cook and food lover. Normally I prepare mostly French food like Sol a Meuniere or a Bavette Morilles but this time my interest lies within a whole new cooking experience, vegan food. This whole new world of cooking asks for new recipes and cooking techniques, which I hope to obtain. Of course I still try to have that French influence in my vegan recipes.
Soy in the Amazon – The Myth that vegans hurt the planet with soy foods
It’s a widespread myth, that the tofu and soy-milk consumption is bad for the planet and our environment. The truth, however, is, that 85% of the produced soy is used for feeding animals and, according to WWF, 80% of the current deforestation is accounted for by cattle ranching, this also accounts for the forests in the Amazon. Statistics therefore show, that natural vegetation would need to be used 94% LESS to provide us with the same amount of protein. Meaning that the secondary consumption of soy by non-vegans accounts for the immense deforestations which are happening and even if all humans would change their diet to be vegan the natural vegetation required for its production would be 94% declined.
“Increasing meat consumption is the main driver behind soy’s continuing expansion. Around three-quarters of soy worldwide is used for animal feed, especially for poultry and pigs.” (The Growth of Soy: Impacts and Solutions, 2014 WWF report)
Environment
In case you are wondering why eating animal products is bad for the environment and how much impact your eating behaviour has on it?! Here are some facts. A quarter of global emissions come from food. More than half of the food emission comes from animal products and more than half of all farmed animal emissions come from beef and lamb. Go Vegan to save the planet! Global warming is a real problem and since we don’t have a planet B, everyone should contribute and try to reduce eating animal products. A global switch to diets that rely less on meat and more on fruit and vegetables could save eight million lives by 2050 and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by two thirds. Isn’t that enough motivation to put some effort in making a change?

You try to reduce your driving behaviour, so why not also try to change your eating behaviour?High Carbon Emission from eating animal products is only one out of many issues occurring when consuming high amounts of meat, dairy and other products.
Good vegan food in Maastricht
If you want to have some good vegan food, you don’t have to travel far. Maastricht has a lot of good restaurants with a vegan menu, or at least some good vegan dishes on their menu. The first restaurant that I will introduce is SAP: bagel and juice. They serve some really nice vegan salads and bagels. From my own experience, I suggest the Avocado BLT bagel.
Another great place is Preps, located in the city centre of Maastricht. In this restaurant I recommend the vegan caramel pancakes. I won’t give you more recommendations, because it’s also a lot of fun to find it out yourself! Have fun exploring!
